Red-Cornered Lacquer Box

Japanese, 18th century red-cornered box with lacquer (maki-e) technique decorations. The exterior of the lid is decorated with pine-tree, bamboo and crest. The plant motives are executed in gold flat lacquer (hiramaki-e). The corners of the lid and the upper parts of the box are covered with red painted roughly woven textile. Two small brass ring mounts.
This type of japanese boxes belong to the cosmetic box (tebako) family as they can hold toaletries.
Good condition, one drilled hole on the side of the box. Size: 28 cm x 24 cm x 19.8 cm
